The a/c is Mustang Pilots Club's first P-51D, N511D which crashed in 1971. See P51who #110 for further details by Bill Yoak regarding the accident.

Yes, its the Mustang Pilots Club P-51D-30NA, 44-74950, N511D. Photo taken in April 1965.
It was a regular sight at Van Nuys Airport in those days.Its being warmed up prior to takeoff.
The majority of Mustangs in those days had civilian color schemes.
