P-51 Who? is back!

  Roger Baker April 13, 2008 at 16:59:09
My guess is 44-63865, Jack Kistler, Aerosport, Chino, late 1960's

  Dick Phillips April 27, 2008 at 18:25:22
Yes, it is N51JK, 44-63865.
It went to Sweden in 1945 as Fv26018, then to the FAN as #90, then home as N6163U and then to N51JK.
It is now N151TF.

I'm sure this picture was taken in Mustangs Unlimited
hanger in Atlanta, Ga.

I noticed that you showed "Photo info: unknown" for this picture. I had submitted it a couple years ago so perhaps you misplaced the info. It was taken in the Mustangs Unlimited hangar at Atlanta Municipal Airport. Unfortunately, I don't know if the guesses on serial number/N-number are correct since I have no record of that.

I am Jack Kistler's granddaughter; I am wondering when that picture was taken. My guess would also be Chino Aerosport due to the paintjob and the propeller condition (but I could be wrong--happens all the time). That particular plane has quite a history.

I was pleasantly surprised to find this picture and mention of my grandfather, OJ Kistler. I have many fold memories of times at the Chino Airport, Reno Air Races, Mojave Air Races, my one ride in it, and Granddad buzzing the house in Chino, amongst others.

Sorry to have run on....

I had a small office in the "AeroSport" hangar (Chino) back in 1983. My aircraft was on the ramp so I did not spend much time in the hangar, however, this picture does not look like the Chino Hangar as I recall but is is possible. I knew two guys named Rick and Soup................ anybody else know them? They were partners in the restoration of these old war birds.

I am the son of the owner (Supe) of Aero Sport At chino. I spent many happy weekends sweeping the hangar floor and I can say without a doubt, This is NOT the inside of the Aero Sport hangar. It has to be Atlanta.

Case Closed!
