The NAA production plants were very well organized and under tight control and supervision. The engineers were stationed on the production floor to be closer to the work. At one time, NAA was producing a P-51 Mustang every 21 minutes! With production stepped up, P-51s were waiting on the ramp for delivery pilots.

The P-51 Mustang was produced at two North American Aviation facilities. The Inglewood, Ca plant was designated -NA on the model numbers. The second plant, set-up to increase production of the fighter, was designated -NT on the model numbers. It was located in Dallas, Tx. The Dallas plant produced the P-51C, the P-51D-NT, the P-51K and was going to produce the P-51M and the P-51L but the order was cancelled at the end of WWII.
