#405 was nicknamed "El Negrito" by members of the AMD
El Negrito kept the long-range fuel tanks and navigation used in the Bendix Race for reconnaissance work. Later the tanks were removed and the P-51 was outfitted with armament.
Photos show that this P-51 retained its all black paint when in AMD service.
