2005 Ford Mustang GT Coupe

|
The largest in the world Ford Mustang Show was in Bellevue, Washington on July
16-19, 2004. The show is put on by Mustangs Northwest. Ford made it possible to
show a new 2005 Mustang. It is a torch red GT Coupe.
The convertible will not be available until spring 2005.
The new Mustang was a huge attraction at the show. I missed Pony Trails on
Friday. This 05 Mustang lead the way on one of the hops.
The 2005 model is a brand new design with very few similarities
from last year. I like the old and new look combination Ford has put together.
I think they could have gone a little more to the old side for an even
better look. I would love to see a Mach 1, Saleen or Roush version of this car.
This new 2005 will be a top seller. Most of the same colors
and a few new ones are available.
There are two engine options at this time.
The new 4.6L V8 is producing 300 HP and 320 ft.lbs of torque (not bad huh?).
Even the V6 (sacrilege!) produces 208 HP. I will admit that I drove a rental
V6 Mustang from Portand (no v8's in stock). I even
entered it into the show on Sunday to get close parking for my camera
gear. If you happened to notice a very plain silver 2004 coupe with plenty of
bugs on the front - that was mine! Fuel economy
is not listed yet, but who buys a Mustang to save gas (they guy who wants a
V6 I guess)? Actually a V6 would make sense if you are only after the style
and not the performance. It moves enough to get around very nicely and you are
likely to save on insurance and certainly on gas. The sound of the V6
bothered me more than the power.
Wheelbase is 107 inches and overall length is 187 inches.
Three transmissions are available: the TR3650
5-speed manual for the 4.6L, T5 5-speed manual for the V6 and the 5R55S
5-speed automatic for both engines. Optional wheels include 17 inch bright
machined cast aluminum (shown above). The rear end in the V6 and the AT GT
models have a ratio of 3.31 and the GT manual transmission is a 3.55 ratio.
There are a few interior upgrade packages available and even a spoiler-delete
package for those who want to rid the car of the rear wing. The packages
are the V6 Deluxe, V6 Premium, GT Deluxe and GT Premium. The audio can be
upgraded from the standard AM/FM stereo single CD to the Shaker 500 - which
adds a 6-disk CD up front and 6 speakers while the Shaker 1000 is the same but
adds 3 more speakers. It looks like there is an mp3 player on the Premium
Audio - nice! With the GT package you get optional suspension handling along
with the 300 HP 4.6L V8.
In all, the new 2005 Ford Mustang offers new/old styling that looks new, yet
not dated, and holds some of the classic mustang lines of old - very tough to
accomplish. The new 300 HP V8 should keep most of the drivers smiling, but
I'm sure the mods from Saleen and Roush will be out in the next year to feed
the power-hungry.
Orders have been taken, yet some dealers are still saying
that they do not have the info from Ford to take orders yet. Check your local
dealer to find out. I have heard that -29k range is for the top models of
the coupe. The convertible should be a bit more. So what are you waiting for
... ?
